- Are you calling me?
- Why no, I did not call you.
- Are you not telling the rosary beads?
-
What happens if I tell the beads? I was telling the beads and also thinking of this
body. I did not call you. I do not have the concentration needed to call you. Yet you
have come! Come, come, and see. Please accept my worship. Please accept this flower
and this sandal paste. Please accept all this.
- You need not worship any more.
-
No, no, why should I not worship? I won’t listen if you speak to me while being hidden
from my eyes. If you have anything to say, assume your own form and come and speak.
-
Conscious Being, Be Awake! Do not identify with your body and forget. You are neither
the body; nor the mind; you are eternal, pure, conscious, free and true. O Conscious
Being, Be Awake!
-
Who is speaking and to whom? Who are you? Who has fallen asleep? Whom are you waking?
- Conscious Being, Be Awake!
-
What is this! Who are you? Whom are you calling? Why is my body filled with
sensations? Why are tears coming into my eyes? O, dear! Whom are you calling and where
does he live?
- In the inner heart.
- What is his name?
- Atmarama.
- What does he look like?
- Smaller than the atom; larger than the greatest object.
- How long has he been asleep?
-
Long. He has covered himself with three coverings and has been sleeping. How long I
have been calling! Remaining unaware, he discards the external clothes, acquires new
ones and goes back to sleep again. In this sleep state, how many dreams has he seen
and cried! He sometimes imagines himself a beast, a bird, a tree, a creeper, different
types of people, a man, a woman, a divine being, and cries. Alas! His crying moves me
to great pity, so I go on following him; calling out to him.
- Well, what are the names of the three cloths?
-
The outermost is called Gross; the middle one is called Subtle and the third, Causal.
- What is the Gross covering made up of?
-
Of the elements. It is made of five elements of earth, water, fire, air and ether. The
middle one is made of five pranas, the mind, the intellect and the ten senses. The
first one is made of the three attributes; sattva, rajas and tama. This time
round, the Gross body is called a Brahmin. This Gross body is wholly immersed in a
dream. He is dreaming of many things; houses, gods, and deities, relations and
kinsmen. Sometimes he laughs; sometimes he cries, sometimes puts on the guise of a
sadhu and utters the name of Rama. Sometimes as a householder he wields a pickaxe and
at other times he sits on the bank of the Ganges and watches the river. Sometimes he
runs after money. Whatever he does, because he utters the name of Rama, I keep
calling, ‘Rise O Conscious Being. You are not a separate individual mind; you are not
the Gross-Subtle-Causal body. You are eternally conscious and free of bondage. You are
a being, immersed in bliss and beyond words. Awake! Awake! Hari Om!’
-
Ah, your call is very sweet Hari Om, Hari Om. Ah! Ah! Hari Om, Hari Om. Tell me, how
his sleep will break?
- By always repeating Hari Om, Hari Om.
- What will happen by repeating Hari Om, Hari Om at a gross level?
-
Atmaram’s identification with the gross body will go. When he will repeat ‘Hari Om,
Hari Om’ at the subtle level, the identification with the subtle body will go. Then he
will say, ‘Hari Om, Hari Om’ at the causal level. After the ego at causal level will
be removed, what will remain will be the kingdom of joy. Hari Om, Hari Om.
- Shall I say?
- Go on, say Hari Om.
-
Hari Om, Hari Om, Ah! Ah! Hari Om, Hari Om, Ah! Ah! Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om
Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om
- Touchstone, do I call you naughty without any reason?
- Why, what naughtiness have you seen?
-
Everything is naughtiness. How many kinds of waves you are creating! I do not know
what is happening. Feels as though I have lost myself in these waves. How great is
your Maya! You are great.
-
Is it my fault if you cry from believing this playacting to be the truth? Whose fault
is it, if you become a king in your dreams and dance like a madman?
-
Why do you put on this show? Why do you create a belief by calling the dream, the
truth? Can’t you will this show to stop? Can’t you break the intoxication of the
dream? You don’t do any of these but come out from time to time to watch the fun.
-
I have said, ‘These are not things different from me. Only I alone exist. I am the
Sun, the Moon, the planets and the stars. I am earth, water, fire, air and ether. I am
the trees and creepers, beasts and birds, worms and insects, man and woman, and the
sinful and the virtuous. I am the honest and the dishonest. I am happiness and sorrow,
sin and suffering, and disease and grief. I am the laughter and the crying, the rebuke
and the praise. I am effort and laziness, the beautiful and the ugly. I am all.’ See
how beautiful is my appearance?
-
Beautiful! Beautiful! You are very beautiful. This is a new guise of yours. Very
beautiful! Very beautiful! My power of speech is dwindling and seems to exist no more.
With your touch everything seems to be turning into nothingness. I seem to be
changing. I can no more tell my beads. Why are you taking everything away? See, I had
a heart full of joy. Why can’t I feel that joy now? I feel like remaining silent. I
have no desire to think of anything. I am sitting still. Do what you like.
-
Do self-study; repeat the mantra that you have received. Understand my true nature
with the help of the Shrutis and meditate on it. Know the world as illusion and take
refuge in me.
-
You have just said that you are everything. Again you are saying that the world is
illusion. Then where shall I take shelter?
-
Omit the name and form from the world. It is correct that I am everything but I am not
its name and form. I am that which remains when the name and form is removed. I am
that which cannot be seen, heard, touched, consumed or tasted. Speech cannot express
me; I am the power behind the speech.
-
See, I wish that you assume a shape and come to me. I cannot hold that attributeless,
changeless, shapeless beauty of yours in this little container of mine.
-
I am a better judge of what you are eligible for. It is up to me to assess your
capacity.
- And what shall I do?
- You shall repeat Hari Om, Hari Om, Hari Om.
- Then let me say Hari Om, Hari Om, Hari Om. What will you do?
- I will wake up the sleeping Purusha. ‘O Conscious Being, Arise and Be Awake!’
-
See, I do not know what power lies hidden in that call of yours but my body is
tingling.
- Conscious Being, Be Awake.
-
Feels as if there is a covering in between. Tell me how this covering can be removed.
-
By reciting Hari Om, Hari Om, Hari Om, Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om
Om Om Om.
